Putting her backpack in her locker.
Getting her lunch out of her backpack.
Walking to her classroom.
Well we did it...we all survived Asher's 1st day of Pre-K4 at Ridgefield Christian with NO TEARS!!!
Jacob has not worked at Emerson in forever, and of all nights they asked him to work a 24 hour shift. I really didn't want him to be gone the night before Asher's first day of school, but he really wanted to. He considers Emerson his "fun" job and I realized this was the last time he would get to work there until his next school break in December. I told him he should work if he really wanted to AS LONG AS he was home early Thursday morning so we could take pictures and take Asher to school together. He got his replacement to come early so he come be home in time.
Wednesday night, I put both of the girls to bed on time. Asher was super excited about going to her new "big girl school". Then I got started...let me say that again...STARTED on Asher's mat cover and pillow. I was so excited to make it for her. I still can't find the pedal to my sewing machine, so I luckily had borrowed Katie's (I think it is actually Mom's) sewing machine for something else and still had it in my closet. I got going. I was doing well, pretty proud of what I was doing when all of a sudden the bobbin messed up. I opened it up and realized her bobbin holder was nothing like what my bobbin holder looks like. Long story short...I messed it up and never could get to start working. So I finished the pillow, but didn't even get to start on the mat cover. I told her teacher that Jacob will be bringing the mat home Friday so I can finish it. She laughed and said that was fine. :) Hopefully, I can fix the bobbin so I can finish it...or I would love to just find my pedal so I can do it on my machine that I know how to work. ;)
We have every intention of having Asher eat the hot lunch everyday so I did not get her a lunch box. Well, me being new at this didn't realize they don't start hot lunches until Monday. So when we got the "reminder" email Wednesday night at 9pm to bring their lunch, I was totally panicked. Jacob was at work, the girls were in bed so I couldn't run out and buy a lunch box or food to go in it. So by this point I had broken the sewing machine was so disappointed that Asher was not going to have her pretty mat cover and pillow the first day of school and now she may not have lunch either. I was a little stressed...oh and did I mention I had forgot to buy her the 1 folder that she had to have. I did not start off on the right foot as a parent of a new student. Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well that night.
I got up Thursday morning and went and woke Asher up, which never happens. Asher is always my alarm clock, so the day started funny anyways! Asher insisted on wearing a skirt her first day. I tried to explain to her that it was her first day at a new school and she needed to wear her khaki shorts so she could sit easier and play harder on the playground. She didn't like that idea, so we got in a little argument over her clothes. Everyone has told me, you are so lucky to have uniforms and won't have all the arguments over clothes. I just want to say, "Anything and everything is possible with Asher Grace!".
After Asher thought about it, she agree to wear her blue polo shirt and khaki short with her new socks and tennis shoes. I put a bow in her hair and she was so excited! She thought she looked beautiful! (of course we were telling her she did! hehe)
Jacob scrounged up some lunch for her. A peanut butter sandwich (cut in squares), some BBQ chips and some applesauce. We had to put it in a brown sack, but Asher was happy with it.
We had gotten a folder full of paperwork the night before, so I emptied it out, put her name on it and put it back in her backpack as her folder. As for the poor mat, I had to send it to school naked with her princess pillow and blanket.
Grandma Jan took some family photos of all of us... I hope to go steal those from her soon! Then Mommy, Daddy and Asher took off for our first day of school! We got there and it was so busy. Kids everywhere! We parked, Asher put on her backpack and we all walked in together. We were greeted by tons of teachers and school board members. Asher remembered where her classroom was, so she led the way. We went to her locker and her name wasn't on it anymore. We looked around and they had moved it to right outside her classroom door, so it was even better. She found her name. Then she turned to me and said, "Mommy, put my mat in there first". I could so hear her saying "DUH!" in her head. So I put the naked mat in her locker, then she put her backpack on top of it, threw her lunch in the top and just walked straight into her classroom. Jacob told her to come back and tell us bye. She laughed and came back out into the hallway and gave us a hug and told us bye and walked right back in and started playing with her new classmates. She was such a big girl. I didn't even have time to cry because I was just so proud of my BIG GIRL!!! I then realized I heard a lot of crying (kids and Moms) behind me so Jacob and I hurried and got out of there before it sunk it what just happened. :)
We are so proud of our Asher Grace!!!
